Our story

We just missed Monday.
Again.

One Kiwi. One Aussie. Based in Newcastle — and almost never actually there.

We're Ree and Kyle — a Kiwi and an Aussie from Newcastle, NSW. We've been together for ten years, and honestly, the way this whole thing started kind of tells you everything you need to know about us.

We'd only been dating for about a month when Kyle turned to me and said "do you want to go to America?" I said yes. We booked the trip. We left a week later.

That's just how we do things.

We landed at Disneyland on that first trip, walked through those gates together, and that was it. That was our place. We knew it from the very first moment — and we've been finding excuses to go back ever since.

"One Kiwi. One Aussie. All the magic — and not a single Monday missed."

The two of us

K
Kyle
The Spreadsheet King

Kyle is the reason we're never scrambling at the airport. The flights are booked, the hotel is sorted, the park tickets are purchased, and there is absolutely a colour-coded itinerary — ready to go months before we leave. He runs a retail business back home in Newcastle, which means juggling a thousand things at once is basically his superpower. Travel planning for him isn't a chore. It's a hobby. A very intense hobby.

Ree
The Itinerary Wrecker

Ree is the reason the itinerary goes out the window — in the best possible way. She's the one who spots the burger place that's been on every "best of" list, declares a full change of plans, and somehow makes it feel like that was the whole point of the trip. By day she's an insurance broker working from home, which means she's very good at risk assessment. She just chooses to ignore it on holiday.

Together we're equal parts spreadsheet and spontaneity — "it's on the itinerary" and "forget the itinerary, I found burgers." It works better than it should.

How this all started

A month in. A week's notice.
No hesitation.

We'd only been together for about a month when Kyle suggested America. Not "maybe one day" — actually booked it, a week later, and we were gone. Looking back, it was probably a mad thing to do. At the time it just felt obvious.

Disney was on that first trip. We walked in together and something just clicked. It sounds a bit dramatic but it's true — from that very first moment, standing there in the middle of it all, we both just knew. This was our happy place. We were going to keep coming back here for the rest of our lives.

So we made a deal. At least twice a year, no matter what. And we've kept it. Not because we're rolling in money — but because we figured out how to make it work. Better points strategies, smarter booking windows, knowing when to splurge and when to save. We learned as we went, and we wrote it all down so you don't have to figure it out the hard way like we did.

What you'll find here

Real trips. Real costs.
Written for Aussies.

Everything on this blog is written from experience — not from a press trip, not from a quick Google. We've paid full price, made the wrong calls, found the hidden gems, and eaten at the places nobody tells you about. And we've written all of it down in AUD, because most travel content out there is written by Americans for Americans, and that's genuinely not that helpful when you're flying from Newcastle.

We cover Disney, America, road trips, points hacking, and wherever else we end up — including Tokyo and Europe, because once the travel bug bites, it doesn't really stop at one continent.

If you've ever sat at your desk on a Monday morning thinking "I'd rather be literally anywhere else" — you're in the right place. Pull up a chair. Let's plan something.
